请问,什么是where he is from,为什么是这样的结构?它与where is he from?有什么差别?

只有疑问句才用倒装语序.
 
本句中的 where he is from, how old he is, and what school he goes to 是 ask 的宾语从句（即间接引语）,不属于疑问句,因此必须用正常语序（即陈述语序）.
 
如果把放在引号中宾语从句改为直接引语,那么它们就成了疑问句,这是就需用用倒装语序：
They often ask him, "Where is he from, how old is he, and what school does he go to?".

 
再问： 明天你打算支远足吗？ A：Are you going hiking tomorrow? B：Are you going to go hiking tomorrow? 请问张老师上面2个句子哪个是正确的？为什么呢？
再答： 语法上都没有问题，但是 第二种的说法中比较笨重，英美人很少这样说，应该用第一种。理由如下： be going to do 表示未来的打算/计划，而趋向动词 go 的进行时态 be going 也有这种意思，因此 going to go 迭加在一起属于修辞中的 wordiness（累赘），应该避免使用。
再问： 我明天打算去远足=I am going hiking tomorrow. 张老师，我是不是可以这样说呢？
再答： 可以，另如其他的趋向动词都可以这样表示： I'm leaving for Shanghai tomorrow.  我明天要前往上海去。He is coming to see me next week. 他下周要来看我。
再问： 张老师，请问怎样才算是趋向动词呢？
再答： 带有方向的动词就是趋向动词，如go 走过去，come走过来，arrive 到达目的地，get 抵达目的地，leave 离开往别处去，draw 移动过来，等等。
