The above-mentioned irregularities in the structure of a medium may be implied by its continuous nonhomogeneity. At the same time, such a class of models proves to be the simplest and most adequate for developing methods of a mathematical
quantitative description of interference wave fields. It contains models of media that allow one, in principle, to conduct investigations by mathematically exact methods. Therefore, the results obtained here may be regarded as solutions of the corresponding model problems, and these solutions may be used to extend the methods devised for calculation of fields to both media of a more general nature and to the case of simplified strategies applied in the engineering theory of waves.
