Have you heard about the heavy snow in many cities in the northern United States? It was the heaviest snow in about sixty years.
The heaviest snow fell on January 26th. The average layer of snow reached 30-46 centimeters. The temperature in New York dropped to minus 6 degrees Celsius.
Thousands of travelers had been left at Kennedy International Airport and the other two big airports in New York City. Many highways across the northern United States were closed. On the 27th, all of the public schools in New York had the day off. About 1.1 million schools were closed and millions of students were absent from school because of the heavy snow.
In the capital, Washington D.C, the heavy snow destroyed power lines and left 300,000 families in the dark. During rush hour after work on the 27th, the traffic was a mess. It took some people 8 hours to get back home.
Some people said the strange weather happened because of global warming. So it’s our duty to protect the environment
