power such as stamping,punching,forming or extruding,just
to name a few.There are many varieties of hydraulic presses
performing many different processes such as the ones in Fig.1
and Fig.2.Most of the presses that are used in industry utilize
the open-loop motion,and they’re either manually or PLC
operated [5].However,the open-loop method can’t precisely
control the desired positions in a Hydraulic press system,so
making a product by a press machine according to the
open-loop method yields poor performance.On the other
hand,if the close-loop method is used for a press machine
system,then it will cause many vibration movements and
noises because of the machine’s large weigh and inertia.
In this paper,we propose the conversion controller for the
hydraulic press systems to be used between the open-loop
method\x05and\x05the\x05close-loop\x05method\x05to\x05address the
aforementioned problems.This controller uses the open-loop
method until the conversion point is reached.After that,the
conversion controller changes from using the open-loop
method to using the close-loop method for precise position
control.When the close-loop controller,which includes a PI
based controller and a Forward/Backward compensator,
manages a press machine system,it precisely follows the
desired position.The advantage of using this controller is
reducing the vibrations and the noises to achieve a more
efficient control-press machine than what can be achieved
with using the conventional methods.
In this paper,we show the results of using the conversion
controller for a hydraulic press system.We propose a
powerful PowerPC based controller to control the Hydraulic
press system.The remainder of the paper is organized as
follows.In Section 2,we explain the hydraulic press system.
In Section 3,we present the conversion control algorithm.
Section 4 demonstrates the environment and the overall
system’s architecture.The experimental results are presented
