The problem is, translating them successfully requires very good understanding of both languages and their culture, which makes this work a rather hard one. Translators need to grasp the meanings of them correctly, and to redefine it in an image that English readers are familiar with. Translating something is to spread culture. No translation should be called successful without the cultural knowledge of both sides, and it requires more when it comes to idioms and proverbs. In any language, proverbs stand its indispensable position. Using them right will certainly highlight your wording. As the result of a certain cultural background, proverbs enlighten, instruct, impart, educate and advocate people with their given meanings. What’s more, proverbs bear the cultural mark, which gives them cultural value to make them important in the research of Great Britain's culture, although not necessarily the only valuable material. Studying English proverbs will help us understand the philosophy of western culture, know about British history and custom, thus to enlarge our English language knowledge and widen our views.
