Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world. They are only 3 inches long. These birds have shiny backs, forked tails and colorful wings and they have long-pointed beaks. They make them look special and cute.
Hummingbirds usually drink nectar from flowers. But they also eat some insects and worms especially the ones in the flowers and sometimes they pick insects out of spider webs for food.
Hummingbirds can fly forwards, sideways and even backwards. Like swallows, hummingbirds need to fly to northern countries before winter comes. They live in forests, rainforests and wetlands. All of them are hummingbirds’ ideal homes.
